Tavia Pearson serves as a School-Based Counselor and brings a thoughtful, compassionate presence to the students and families she supports. With experience as a psychotherapist, behavioral health specialist, crisis intervention specialist, and case manager, Tavia has worked with a wide range of individuals, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Her work has taken place in diverse settings such as outpatient programs, community mental health agencies, crisis centers, and schools, giving her a well-rounded perspective on how to support people through life’s challenges.
Tavia’s approach to counseling is client-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. She utilizes evidence-based techniques to meet each client where they are. Her clinical focus includes supporting children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, and major life transitions.
She holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from The University of Akron through their Advanced Standing program and is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition to her clinical work, Tavia is actively engaged in community advocacy as a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., where she serves on the Cleveland Commission on Black Women and Girls Education Subcommittee.
Tavia believes that healing happens when people feel truly safe, heard, and supported. She strives to create a welcoming, non-judgmental space where clients can gain insight, develop practical coping tools, and build confidence in their ability to navigate challenges.
Outside of her counseling work, Tavia enjoys spending time with her niece, kickboxing, and exploring new restaurants. Her passion for the social work field is deeply personal, being inspired by her own experience receiving support from a social worker during a difficult time. That experience continues to shape the empathy and dedication she brings to every client interaction. She often reflects on an important lesson learned from her clients: feeling seen and understood can be just as healing as any intervention.
