Michele Maas, LPCC-S, brings more than 25 years of experience in counseling and behavioral health to her role at HWS. Throughout her career, she has worked as an individual, family, couples, and group counselor, Clinical Supervisor, CPST Supervisor, professional development trainer, public speaker, and adjunct professor. These roles have allowed her to support clients while mentoring professionals and educating future counselors.
Michele has primarily worked with adults, women, couples, and young adults, with a particular focus on women’s issues and relationship concerns. For the past 10 years, she has worked primarily in private practice, with additional experience in school and community-based settings. Her areas of focus include relationships, anxiety, depression, OCD, grief and loss, trauma, self-care, wellness, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
Her approach is compassionate, client-centered, and individualized. Michele primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while drawing from other approaches based on each client’s needs and goals. She believes clients are the experts on their own lives and strives to help them recognize their strengths, build confidence, and develop tools to move forward.
Michele earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Development from Walsh University. She has been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor for more than 25 years and a Clinical Supervisor since 2012. She is also the Founder and President of Another Act of Kindness, a nonprofit supporting frontline workers, and remains active in several community and church organizations.
Clients can expect Michele to lead with compassion while also being honest and willing to gently challenge them when needed. She believes couples counseling should be a safe place for difficult conversations, deeper understanding, and stronger connections. She also believes that learning to communicate openly and listen with empathy can create meaningful change in relationships.
Outside of work, Michele enjoys spending time with her husband of more than 38 years, their family, and their black lab, Lulubell. She loves being outdoors, especially walking, hiking, boating, and biking. One of her proudest accomplishments is growing Another Act of Kindness, which has awarded more than $45,000 in nursing scholarships and provided mental health and wellness programming to more than 1,000 frontline workers across Ohio.
